The MT (or empty) chair focuses on the void, an idea Ron Arad had previously explored with his wooden Empty chair, in 1994. Using polyethylene allowed the idea to be further developed. The outside of the MT is rough to touch while the inside is smooth and glossy, a difference which is celebrated through the use of contrasting colours. To create the MT chair Arad revisited an older plastic manufacturing process, rotational moulding, popular with young designers at that time.
