Paulin’s first chair, (in 1954) was the ArmchirAP-14, also known as the Anneau chair due to its ring like frame. This chair featured a metal frame with suspended leather upholstery. As Paulin’s longtime associate Michael Chalard noted, ‘the F300 can be seen as a development of this design, where the back and side have been drawn down to the floor, almost as if they had melted away’. The F300 is a monobloc in that it moulded as single piece in polyurethane with a soft glossy finish. Comfort is provided through padded upholstery attached to the inside of the hollow which creates the back and arm rests, a characteristic this model shares with Eero Aarino’s Pastil chair of the same year.
