The Belleville gets its name from the Parisian neighborhood where designers, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec have their studio. As with the Wing chair, the Belleville was inspired by a café or bar chair, this time the classic French bistro chair. The structural frame seems to flow as effortlessly as a continuous line produced by a master calligrapher creating the legs and back. Getting this right was the key to developing the design. The stackable Belleville Chair consists of two components – a structural frame made from black polyamide (Ultramid® B3EG6 SI from BASF (30% glass fibres)), available with or without arms and a seat shell. The seat shell is available in plastic, wood or with a cover in leather or fabric. The plastic version is suitable for outdoor use. Vitra manufacture the chair using gas injection moulding, allowing a chair to be produced in less than four minutes. The Belleville chairs were launched at the Salone del Mobile, Milan in 2015 together with a dining table and coffee table, designed to complete the range.
